Hollywood Shows Us that Weed Isn’t Detrimental to Success

For a long time, there’s been a stigma associated with marijuana use: if you admit to consuming the “devil’s lettuce,” your reputation is on the line. The common misconception is, if one consumes a small amount of marijuana, it’s just a waiting game until you’re plopped on the couch on a semi-comatose state, binge-watching internet shows.

In fact, falling into an endless abyss of naps is an option one may or may not take. Business owners, lawyers, and other individuals who have become successful in their respective fields can attest to this. And yes, even your favourite celebs.

Following the legalization of marijuana in several countries and states, a growing number of celebrities are beginning to speak about partaking in cannabis, and even advocating its use.

So, who has toked in Tinseltown? Or rather, who hasn’t?

Check out our list (munchies are optional):

Snoop Dogg

Doggfather Snoop Dog is one of pot’s biggest poster kids. He’s known as marijuana’s biggest advocate in the world of hip-hop, coining what was to become the battle cry for stoners everywhere: “some weed every day.” And Snoop is one to walk it like he talks it: he has his own line of cannabis products and even has a strain named after him.

Jay Z

Hova is among the celebs who supported Proposition 64, which made California the most populous state in the US to legalize the recreational use of cannabis. But this didn’t mark the rapper’s foray into marijuana. In 2001, he upped weed’s powers to boost creativity with the line “it’s seldom that I smoke, but it helps my thinker,” in the song “Think it’s a Game” by Beanie Sigel.

Megan Fox

Megan Fox is also perched high on the list of popular cannabis advocates. In an interview with GQ in 2009, she was quoted as saying, “I hope they legalize [marijuana] and when they do I’ll be the first f**king person in line to buy my pack of joints.”

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga first used cannabis to manage hip pain following an accident. But as the singer gains more than pain relief from smoking weed, she reportedly came to a point where she smoked at least 15 joints in a day. In a Z100 interview, Gaga said she has “to be high to be creative.”

Kirsten Dunst

In 2007, Dunst revealed on MTV that she likes weed, and that she has a “different outlook on marijuana than America does.” She even went as far as saying that the world would be a better place if everyone smoked weed.

Rihanna

In 2015, word got out that Rihanna will be having her own line of marijuana products under the label –wait for it – MaRihanna. While the line turned out to be but a beautiful dream, Bad Girl RiRi still is one of the biggest advocates of cannabis.

Willie Nelson

What list of cannabis enthusiast wouldn’t include Willie Nelson, a long-time legend in the cannabis world? Nelson has been advocating pot legalization in the US since the 1980s. The man is known for his ultra-high tolerance that, in fact, he’s one of the select people Uncle Snoop says can smoke him under the table.

Here’s a bonus:

Carl Sagan

You probably find Cosmos one of the most enjoyable things to watch when stoned, and for good reason: Sagan spent a good part of his adult life as “a secret and avid pothead.”
