What is the Best Marijuana Strain for Medication?

The answer is very subjective. It depends on the person, their physical and/or mental condition, metabolism and experience with cannabis. In general, it all starts with considering THC & CBD. Out of 400 chemical compounds found in marijuana, these two are noted as the most important active ingredients. And there are also more than 60 different cannabinoids, including several types of CBD.

All marijuana has different amounts of THC and CBD.

  • THC is Tetrahydrocannabinol. This is what gets you high.
  • CBD or Cannabidiol is what heals various deficiencies in the body.

The various combinations of the 400 chemical compounds create a smorgasbord of results when you factor in the crossbreeding of Indica and Sativa strains and all the resulting derivatives.

The first research focused on life threatening diseases such as cancer and those suffering from intense and/or chronic pain. More recently, studies have focused on stress or anxiety related disorders.

Here is a list of Cannabis strains that are known to be very effective for various needs and conditions.

Best WBUD Marijuana Strains for Anxiety

Generally, Marijuana Strains with high levels of THC are not considered appropriate for anxiety. However, studies have found PTSD patients are deficient in Anandamide (aka the Bliss Molecule). Anandamide is a compound that occurs naturally in the brain and acts similar to THC. Therefore, these high THC content strains work great for people lacking in Anandamide.

Interestingly, some studies have indicated that about 20% of the population has an abundance of Anandamide. These folks tend to have a lower preference for marijuana. For more on the Bliss Molecule see the WBUDFact section below.

WBUDFact

The Bliss Molecule

Anandamide is a compound that occurs naturally in the brain. It is a neurotransmitter that binds to the receptors for THC in the same way.

The root of the word “ananda” is from Sanskrit and means “joy, bliss, or happiness”. Hence the name – the Bliss Molecule. Anandamide is also found in Chocolate, Black Truffles, Celery, Parsley, and Tea. We suggest not trying to smoke any of these.

The brain produces Anandamide in the areas important for higher thought, memory, control of movement, and motivation. It is important in processes for appetite, fertility and pain. And it slows down the production of cancer cells.

Annadamide also delivers both anti-anxiety and antidepressant effects via increasing the growth of new nerve cells (neurogenesis).

Being a neurotransmitter, Anandamide breaks down quickly in the body so the effects are not long lasting. So if you want a longer term euphoric feeling, stick to THC.
